The picture shows Hayward Lakes Muskies Inc. members working at the Spooner Hatchery with DNR staff. They are putting “PIT” tags in soon to be stocked 8-13” Muskies. The tags are 3/8” long and the diameter of a pencil lead. Each tag carries a number that can be read with a type of scanner. Each fish is measured to the 1/8” and the number recorded. In the future these fish will be caught by netting, shocking or hook and line. They will be scanned, measured and the number recorded. This will allow for growth rates and population numbers to be accurately determined along with longevity and movements within the lake. The Hayward Chapter helped buy the tags needed.
